Reseeding an Existing Lawn

To improve the density and overall appearance of an established lawn, mow it as close as possible and rake thoroughly. Aeration in both directions is recommended to prepare a good seedbed.

Spread seed on bare spots, using the recommended seeding rate for new lawns. If you need to increase the density of the lawn, then seed at the recommended rate for reinforcement seeding.

It is recommended to add a thin layer of potting soil. Make sure the lawn remains moist until the seedlings establish.

Spring cleanup: Mechanically rake or dethatch your lawn without damaging the roots. This will allow better surface aeration so that the soil warms up. The lawn will green up more quickly.

Application rate: Spread 1 kg of fertilizer per 40 m2 of lawn (1 lb/200 ft2).

Application of fertilizer: Divide the amount of fertilizer into 2 equal parts; fertilize the lawn in both directions (e.g. east-west and north-south). Close the spreader when filling after fertilizer application.

Weeds: By properly fertilizing your lawn, it will help combat the invasion of weeds.

Aeration: Fall aeration is very beneficial for grass roots. Leave the ground carrots on the lawn; they will decompose naturally before spring.

Fall mowing: Mow the lawn regularly to a height of 8 cm (3 in) at all times. Then lower the cut to 5 cm (2 in) by the end of October. This will make cleaning easier the following spring.
