Seeding a New Lawn: A Practical Guide

Seeding a New Lawn

The surface must be cleared of all debris, stones, and clumps of soil, then leveled. The land should have a natural slope of 1 cm per meter (1 inch per 10 ft).

Ensure you have a layer of good quality topsoil at least 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 inches) thick. The addition of Herbionik® 12-18-8 rooting formula lawn fertilizer will help stimulate the establishment of healthy roots.

Leveling: Prepare the topsoil by raking the surface a few centimeters deep for a minimum of 6 inches of soil to prepare the seedbed. Roll lightly to obtain a uniform surface.

Seeding: Spread the seeds evenly according to the recommended seeding rate for new lawns. Divide the amount of seeds into two equal parts and sow in two directions (i.e., east-west, north-south). Gently rake the seeds to hide them in the topsoil and roll lightly.

Watering: Ensure the seedbed is moist, not waterlogged, until the seedlings are established.

Mowing: For the first mowing, mow the lawn to one-third of 8 cm (3 inches) once the lawn is well established.
